His volunteering started early and lasted a lifetime – over 50 years each with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and 35 years as an instructor with the American Red Cross. From den “mother” and cookie “mom” to Scoutmaster and High Adventure Explorer post advisor, he served where he perceived a need and could make a difference. At age 68, Dave became certified as an EMT. He spent over 15 years serving with the Victor-Farmington Volunteer Ambulance Corps (VFVAC), part of the self-described “Old Geezer Patrol”. His service was recognized by numerous awards, including the BSA Silver Beaver, Girl Scouts Thanks Badge and VFVAC Lifetime Member .
Through it all, he enjoyed learning new things – and then teaching them to others. All of it was done with an amazing capacity for recalling details and, more importantly, with a sense of humor that made learning fun for those he taught and brought them back for more. It was also his humor that created the fondest memories of him for others.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara; children: David Dieter and his wife Cathy, Diane Dieter, Wendy Cama and her husband Dave; grandchildren: Bonnie Hawkins, Adam Dieter, Janelle Furlong, and Jeff Cama; and 6 great-grandchildren, and special other daughter, Pam Barthol.
